URBAN INSTRUCTIONS by BUUUUUUUUU

URBAN INSTRUCTIONS a partecipative intervention in public space based on a series of stickers placed around the 20th district for 3 months in 2021. These islands propose different ways of interacting with other people and with the surrounding environment. Passers-by are invited to do small actions, imagine new possibilities, consider other points of view, refocus on the sense of neighbourhood and living-together. This could change, even for a moment, the community we are living in.

BUUUUUUUU IS FEATURED IN THE BOOK ART AND POLITICS NOW

by Anthony Downey - Thames and Hudson

Art & Politics Now is a survey of more than 200 artists whose works address the political, often using radical approaches and techniques to communicate their ideas. Since the turn of the 21st century, contemporary artists have increasingly engaged with some of the most pressing issues facing our world and their art has taken a distinctly political turn. Eleven themed chapters with integrated illustrations each provide a closely woven argument about the contribution of specific artworks and projects to different aspects of political and social engagement, from globalization and citizenship to activism and the environment.

DECLINING DEMOCRACY
Ripensare la democrazia tra utopia e partecipazione

Giovedì 22 settembre 2011 ore 19.00
Centro di Cultura Contemporanea Strozzina
Palazzo Strozzi, Firenze

Artisti: Francis Alÿs, Michael Bielicky & Kamila B. Richter, Buuuuuuuuu, Roger Cremers, Democracia, Juan Manuel Echavarría, Thomas Feuerstein, Thomas Hirschhorn, Thomas Kilpper, Lucy Kimbell, Cesare Pietroiusti, Artur Żmijewski

DECLINING DEMOCRACY
Rethinking democracy between utopia and participation

Thursday 22 September 2011 at 19.00
Centre for Contemporary Culture Strozzina
Palazzo Strozzi -Florence

Artists: Francis Alÿs, Michael Bielicky & Kamila B. Richter, Buuuuuuuuu, Roger Cremers, Democracia, Juan Manuel Echavarría, Thomas Feuerstein, Thomas Hirschhorn, Thomas Kilpper, Lucy Kimbell, Cesare Pietroiusti, Artur Żmijewski

Contemporary art as a platform to explore contemporary social and political issues: the exhibition presents the diverse artworks of twelve international contemporary artists that create a reflection on the values and contradictions that typify today’s society, addressing the possible declinations of the principles of democracy, which is being challenged more and more today.
The exhibition was born out of a consideration of the contemporary international situation. While the current economic crisis has triggered deep social unrest in Western countries, a new sense of revolutionary political utopia, different from, yet parallel to developments in Europe, appears to have gained a foothold in the countries of North Africa and the Middle East.
The artworks on display will consider such themes as the clash between the individual and the community, the growing gap between the average citizen and the political classes, the power and influence of economic lobbies and mass media, the issues surrounding immigration and new potential forms of democratic participation.
Declining Democracy is a project devised by CCC Strozzina with the scholarly contribution of Piroschka Dossi, Christiane Feser, Gerald Nestler and Franziska Nori.
